Not only did the car impress with its speed, the car also proved itself to be remarkably reliable - only finishing outside the top five on two occasions which were both accounted for by retirements. Of the nineteen races, only in Korea did another car start on pole and yet Vettel remained on the front row.

The sheer pace of the RB7 was incredibly impressive, particularly as it didn't use a KERS unit which many of its rivals were using. The RB7 dominated the season opener in Melbourne, with Vettel qualifying on pole by eight tenths of a second and winning the race by twenty-two seconds. The pre-season testing held at Valencia and Barcelona set an incredible positive tone for the beginning of the season, with the RB7 consistently setting the pace for others to follow, which only proved to be a sign of the success to follow throughout the season. Though newly introduced regulations meant some changes to the car had to be made, such as a ban on double deck diffusers, the technical team, led by Adrian Newey, exploited the pull rod rear suspension that was introduced in 2009. The RB7 was an evolution of the previous year's Championship-winning RB6. Hand-crafted utilising the original CAD data supplied directly by Red Bull.
